K-WINGS House B Description

The KOHA House B program was originally designed to provide additional ice time for players to improve their hockey skills and to give them an opportunity to play competitive games in surrounding cities.

The KOHA House B program takes part in the Adray Community Hockey League (West Division), which incorporates teams as far north as Traverse City and as far east as Battle Creek. Most games, however, are within an hour drive. We have open registration for  House B teams in the 10U, 12U, and 14U Divisions. Players will need to attend evaluation skates conducted by our Skills Staff and will be drafted by our volunteer coaches to their teams based on the evaluations provided by our Skills Staff. Our drafts are monitored by a representative from MAHA's District 6 Council.

KOHA has committed to utilizing the American Development Model (ADM) at all levels within our program to provide age-specific, skill-based training for long-term athlete development. We believe that KOHA, and Kalamazoo, can be a hockey destination. In addition, we believe that improved player development, in an age-appropriate format, will help us reach that goal. Increased ice touches, smaller roster sizes (your skater will get more ice time opportunities during games), and practices that maximize ice-utilization have already helped KOHA players develop.

Each division will practice 3 times per week (most likely Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays), with games on weekends. The program is still geared toward development and fair playing time. Practice days and times may vary depending on ice availability, but we will do our best to coordinate the schedule in an effort to make as few changes as possible throughout the season.

The cost of the KOHA House B program will include practice jersey, 2 sets of game socks, 18 home/away games (10U) or 20 home/away games (12U and 14U), 2 tournaments, Adray playoff tournament, and MAHA District 6 play in games. Game jerseys (and team warm-ups if players choose) are paid for separately and can be reused the following season. Your player will receive practice time indicated above, skill/goalie coaching and off ice conditioning which will assist in your player’s development.

The KOHA House B program is governed by the KOHA board of directors and House B Director, Dave Toth. Fundraising efforts are organized on a team-by-team basis and all teams can participate in the yearbook fundraiser where they can sell advertising to local businesses to help offset the cost of the program.

Frequently asked questions

What is it?
The KOHA house B program is open to all players who are interested in playing (no tryouts). Players are asked to skate in our evaluation skates and are then drafted based on player evaluations. They play in a league with other house B programs on the west side of Michigan. KOHA only offers this program to 10U, 12U & 14U players.

Why does KOHA offer this level of hockey?
The B program fits nicely between KOHA's internal house C league and the travel teams and is geared towards player development.  In fact, players that have played KOHA House B Hockey have gone on to play both travel and high school hockey. The 'B' teams will generally have three practices (including a  skills skate) during the week and then play games on the weekend. Teams will participate in a couple of tournaments during the year as well.

What is the cost of the program and what does it cover?
The fee includes a practice jersey, 2 sets of game socks, approximately 18 home/away games (10U) or approximately 20 home/away games (12U/14U), 2 tournaments, Adray playoff tournament, and MAHA District 6 play in games. Game jerseys are paid for separately and can be reused the following season. You will find that the cost at KOHA is competitive to other teams in the Adray West League for what we offer our skaters. Your player will also receive skill/goalie coaching and off ice conditioning which will assist in your player’s development.

How do we register?
This will be an open registration with the goal of trying to place everyone on a team. Team sizes will consist of approximately 15 players (depending on age/division). The number of teams at each level will vary depending on the amount of players that sign up. Players must register on line with USA Hockey prior to registering with KOHA for House B. CLICK ON "REGISTER TODAY" FROM OUR HOME PAGE! Players will be asked to participate in evaluation skates prior to the season. They will then be drafted on a team according to the guidelines set forth by MAHA. For further information, call (269) 349-7825 or email info@koha.com

Who will the coaches be?
All of our House B coaches are volunteers, and will be announced prior to the season.

How are teams formed?
KOHA will provide evaluations skates (generally around the start of school Aug/Sept) for all players signed up for House B prior to the season starting. A draft will be conducted by coaches with the goal of having teams of equal strength.

Who can I contact if I have more questions?
If you have further questions regarding House B, you can contact Dave Toth at d.toth@koha.com

KOHA is well recognized for having some of the best talent in the area, and as a program that promotes fair play and good sportsmanship not only on the ice, but in the stands as well.

KOHA is registered with MAHA and USA Hockey and is insured under the auspices of a USA Hockey group policy, the age scheme for divisions is as follows...and it would be helpful for you to know this at the time of registration. If you have questions about which division is right for your child - please call or email before you register so we can ensure your child is placed in the correct division.
