KOHA PARTNERS WITH THE SPORTS INSTITUTE OF FINLAND FOR INTERNSHIP

The Kalamazoo Optimist Hockey Association (KOHA) is kicking off it’s 55th season with a huge announcement. KOHA is partnering with The Sport Institute of Finland - Vierumäki, the country’s leading sports training center, to provide an internship opportunity for the 2019-20 season. Vierumäki is home to the International Ice Hockey Centre of Excellence which organizes numerous educational events and training camps, produces educational material, and compiles research data. IIHCE develops and maintains the Hockey Centre ice hockey resource website.

“Creating the intern position is just one more way that KOHA continues to push the envelope in providing great development to players and coaches alike, while providing exemplary service and value to their parents. It continues to be an exciting time to be a player in the Kalamazoo Optimist Hockey Association as their administration continues to find ways to be a leader in youth sport,” said Bob Mancini, USA Hockey ADM Regional Manager.

“Finland is a relatively small country that has seen has seen tremendous success on hockey’s international stage, which is a testament to their development philosophies and culture,” said Matt Kakabeeke, KOHA’s Hockey Director. “Aspen Junior Hockey created a similar partnership a couple of seasons ago, and when I heard about it, I thought, why can’t we do that here in Kalamazoo? We have the resources, vision and board support to be a national leader for youth hockey,” continued Kakabeeke.

If you're having registration issues:

When registering for a Kwings team that you have made for the 2019-20 season, these tips may be helpful:

  • Make sure there is no space to the left of your USAH # when you get to that part of the registration process (especially if you cut and paste the number in), and hit "verify"
  • Once the USAH # is validated, it populates the fields for you. If there is a zip code plus 4 (49009-7118), you need to delete the last 4 digits and the dash so only the 5 digit zip code is entered.

Also - you'll need to choose the amount you want to pay (full amount or commitment fee) BEFORE choosing the payment method once you get to that screen.
