UPDATE: KOHA & THE 3 WEEK PAUSE

Beginning November 18, 2020, youth/amateur sports in Michigan is one of the things getting paused as a result of the Epidemic Order issued by Governor Whitmer and imposed by the Michigan Department of Health & Human Services in response to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

As a result, we know there are a lot of questions - including what this means for our hockey season.

First, we are hoping that the pause is only three weeks, that mitigation strategies work, and that our season can continue.

WHAT WE KNOW:

  • MAHA has issued an update in response to the Epidemic Order, which can be found here on their website. During the three-week pause, all MAHA-sanctioned activity will be postponed. We have reached out to MAHA for clarification and are waiting for them to advise associations if out-of-state tournaments previously scheduled will still be allowed.
  • The Little Caesars Amateur Hockey League (LCAHL) - the league in which our K-Wings teams compete - has already adjusted the season timeline and extended the regular season from January 17th to February 6th to allow teams to make up games that were missed.
  • We have not yet heard from the Adray League (where our House B Bronco teams compete) regarding their season - but will communicate that as soon as any announcement is made.
  • Families need to continue making payments as we believe the season will be extended and lost time will be made up - it’s important that player accounts do not fall behind resulting in families having to make larger payments in order for players to be able to return when the season is restarted.
  • If time is lost and ice sessions are not rescheduled, KOHA will make adjustments to the fees and take lower final payments. If the account is paid in full, or if the amount paid is over the amount of adjusted fees, KOHA will refund the overpaid amount.

During the pause, we strongly encourage our athletes to remain active and engaged by taking advantage of what’s being offered by our partners at Athletic Mentors. We encourage parents to participate in our Zoom sessions and use that platform for questions and input.

Thank you for your patience - and remember to check our website and social sites for updates.
