SPRING HOCKEY IN KALAMAZOO: 6U to 16U - SKATERS & GOALIES

KOHA and the Ferschweiler Hockey School are offering a spring clinic for players preparing tryouts!
 
10U/12U/14U/16U * 8 SESSIONS TOTAL PER AGE DIVISION 4/8-5/1
Mondays (April 8, 15, 22, 29) & Wednesdays (April 10, 17, 24 , May 1)
 
10U -> 5:30-6:30pm
12U ->6:40-7:40pm
14U -> 7:50-8:50pm
16U -> 9:00-10:00pm (Click here for more info)

Pat Ferschweiler - Current Detroit Red Wings Assistant Coach, former WMU Bronco Assistant Coach--Built the Russell Stover AAA Hockey program and served as coach for the U-18 Boys. Pat served as an assistant coach of the U.S. Under-18 Men’s Select Team that placed fourth at the 2018 Hlinka Gretzky Cup, having previously served as an assistant coach for the U.S. Under-17 Men's Select Team that won first at the 2017 Under-17 Five Nations Tournament. Pat has trained elite, travel and house players for more than 25 years. Played in IHL for eight seasons and is a former Bronco player and captain from 1990-1993.
*Coach Ferschweiler will be on the ice as soon as his NHL schedule allows
 
 
SKATING
Throughout the 8 sessions we will focus on skating technique, with the thought that practice makes permanent, but perfect practice makes perfect. Any technical flaw in a skater’s stride acts as a limiting
factor in how good that skater can become.
 
Specific Skating Skills:
  • Forward/Backward Strides
  • Explosive Starts
  • Back Power Starts
  • Power Turns
  • Stopping
  • Forward/Backward Crossovers
  • Overspeed Training
  • Edge Development
 
INDIVIDUAL PUCK SKILLS
 
Throughout the 8 sessions we will focus on individual puck skills while also further developing fundamental aspects of the game.
 
Specific Stick/Puck handling Skills:
  • Stick handling
  • Shooting (wrist shot, slapshot, backhand)
  • Passing
  • Body Contact/Checking
  • Gapping/Angling
  • Cycling/Puck Protection
  • Positioning
  • Attack Zone Triangle

8 Hours of Goalie-Specific Training!

3:1 Coach-to-Student Ratio
LAWSON ICE ARENA

April 9, 11, 16, 18, 23, 25, 30 & May 2
Ice Time: 7-8pm
with age-specific classroom sessions each day (click PDF for classroom times)

COMPLETE CAMP: $425
(or $60 per day if choosing to attend only specific days)

Up-to-date and age-specific training from former NHL goaltender, Tom Askey, who is currently coaching Division 1 College Hockey and who works with goalies at all levels of the game - from youth hockey, juniors, college and pro.

The Body Contact & Confidence Clinic is designed specifically to promote safety and confidence on the ice.

DEFENSEMAN DEVELOPMENT

The Defenseman Development Specialty Clinic will feature a variety of different teaching tactics for defensemen striving to improve their skills. Participants will be taught the mechanics of the position and application of those skills to game situations.
